First Record of Oceanic Anoxic Event 1d at Southern High Latitudes: Sedimentary and Geochemical Evidence From International Ocean Discovery Program Expedition 369

چکیده

Oceanic anoxic event 1d (OAE 1d) has been well studied at northern low latitudes (i.e., in Tethys and the North Atlantic); however, paleoenvironmental response to this high not documented triggering mechanism remains unknown. Here, we address both of these shortcomings by presenting first detailed sedimentary multi-proxy geochemical record OAE southern (60–62°S), obtained from sediments using Site U1513, IODP Expedition 369. Biostratigraphic chemostratigraphic data support correlation interval with 1d, mercury proxy reveals that least is associated Central Kerguelen large igneous province volcanism. Furthermore, significant increase continental runoff consequent terrigenous input southwestern Australia southeastern proto-India Ocean might have resulted regionally weakened bottom-water oxygenation strengthened organic matter burial during 1d.

The Chicxulub impact crater, México, is unique. It is the only known terrestrial impact structure that has been directly linked to a mass extinction event and the only terrestrial impact with a global ejecta layer. Of the three largest impact structures on Earth, Chicxulub is the best preserved. Chicxulub is also the only known terrestrial impact structure with an intact, unequivocal topographi...

International Ocean Discovery Program Expedition 353 Preliminary Report

International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Expedition 353 (29 November 2014–29 January 2015) drilled six sites in the Bay of Bengal, recovering 4280 m of sediments during 32.9 days of on-site drilling. Recovery averaged 97%, including coring with the advanced piston corer, half-length advanced piston corer, and extended core barrel systems. The primary objective of Expedition 353 is to recons...
